Claudia Cervenca
Appears on:Born in Romania, experimental vocalist and performing artist Claudia Cervenca who has been living in Austria since 1990, loves to explore the human vocal potential. After studying jazz in Vienna, she finds increasingly more interest in free improvisation. She continually searches for sounds that are covering a large spectrum from primitive, minimalist and fragile to unrefined, rough and guttural.
Claudia Cervenca filters influences from jazz, etno, noise, and contemporary music, and adds elements of a made-up language, words and poetry creating vocal soundscapes. Her performances evolve into an original artistic expression of free improvisation and experimental music. She is also interested in performing new music writen by contemporary composers, and has performed music written by Judith Unterpertinger, Daniel Mayer, Tamara Friebel, Pia Palme, Raimund Vogtenhuber etc. More recently, she has performed in inderdisciplinary performances with dancers and media artists.
From her earlier projects, Troica trio (with Jan Roder and Uli Soyka) received the Austrian World Music Award 2007 and a nomination for the „Preis der Deutschen Schalplattenkritik“ 2008.
Cervenca regularly performs with trioNuance (with Bernadette Zeilinger and Diego Muné), f.o.u.r ( with Petr Zelenka, Adam Stodolski and Raimund Vogtenhuber), Patchwork Voices and in various spontaneous line-ups, including Pia Palme, Korhan Erel, Judith Unterpertinger, Irene Kepl, Alessandro Vicard, Illi Adato and others.
She has also performed with Karl Ritter, Melissa Coleman, Sabu Toyozumi, Charlotte Hug, Nina de Heney, Elisabeth Harnik, Mia Zabelka, Zara Mani, Katharina Klement, etc..
Together with dancer and choreographer Katharina Weinhuber, she started
the performance series „Fermata“ in order to create a platform for experimental art.
