Thanks to my musicians for bringing my music to life and making it their own. Thanks to everyone who encouraged and supported me in the realization of this work.
Description
The album Fisse arises from a personal and introspective research, both on the instrumental and compositional sides, of the saxophonist and composer Andrea Ciceri, and takes shape through a collective exploration with some of the most active musicians of the Milanese creative jazz scene.
The words inspired this work: the first five tracks of the album invite the listener on a musical journey through the imagery and evocative suggestions drawn from the verses of a brief poem composed by Andrea Ciceri himself.
Chiuso, il pensiero Closed, the thought
È l’abisso It’s the abyss
Delle solite cose About the usual things
Fisse Fixed
To convey in music the evocative power of each individual verse and of the aphorism as a whole, Fisse explores forms and timbres by mixing, blending and reworking disparate compositional methods (ranging from traditional arrangement to instant composing and free improvisation) and heterogeneous musical echoes of the jazz scene, including avant-garde, from the 1960s onward, and merges them into a collective identity of contemporary character and free from stylistic distinctions: the sextet Esatomic.
Two additional pieces complete the album: Miraggio, freely inspired by Cole Porter’s I Love You and Duke Ellington’s Half the Fun, and Blue à la Monk, dedicated to Thelonious Monk.
