Description
This one is a trio rooted in jazz aesthetics yet driven by a rebellious punk and rock soul. The three musicians, once under the name “The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance” have crafted their project in the spirit of an “old-school garage band,” creating music collectively, entirely by memory, with no written scores.
The album FLECA captures the essence of Massimiliano, Piero, and Matteo’s shared journeys. From international tours marked by improvised travel arrangements, to a bicycle trek from Amsterdam to Marche with instruments in tow—each experience has left its imprint on their music.
Designed in a double-sided vinyl format, the album’s Side A offers an intimate glimpse into the trio’s creative world, featuring pieces crafted during their countless late-night jam sessions. Side B serves as a tribute to the great composer Claudio Monteverdi. His opera Il Ritorno di Ulisse in Patria, with a libretto by Giacomo Badoaro, profoundly inspired the trio both musically and literarily.
The album has been praised in advance by international jazz icon Enrico Rava, who writes:
“At my age, it’s hard to be surprised, but these guys have succeeded brilliantly. First and foremost, the instrumentation: trombone, clarinets, and guitar. True, there is a precedent: the trio of Jimmy Giuffré, Bob Brookmeyer, and Jim Hall from 1960, but the music here is totally different. The first thing that strikes you is the originality of the project. It’s fresh music, played superbly with an extraordinary group sound. Interplay, mutual listening, cohesion, colors. In short, a real band that conveys the joy of playing together.”
